Business car leasing, commonly known as Business Contract Hire, allows a company to use a new vehicle for an agreed period and annual mileage. The business pays an initial rental followed by fixed monthly rentals, usually shown excluding VAT. At the end of the agreement, the vehicle is returned, subject to its agreed mileage and condition.

A VAT-registered business can normally reclaim 50% of the VAT charged on qualifying car lease rentals when the vehicle is also available for private use. More may be reclaimable when a vehicle is used exclusively for business purposes. VAT treatment depends on your circumstances, so businesses should confirm eligibility with their accountant. Maintenance may be added to many business lease agreements for an additional monthly cost. Depending on the agreement, this can cover scheduled servicing, maintenance and selected replacement items.
